It’s been a while since I posted a blog on behalf of the committee; I had some tech issues which I’ve only recently resolved. I hope everyone reading this has been keeping well in these strange times.

The seasons have well and truly changed, with most of the summer harvest finished and most work on the allotment now focused on preparing the ground for next spring and cropping winter vegetables. We’ve not had any hard frosts yet though, and there are still plenty of flowers and I’ve even seen some plots with outdoor tomatoes still fruiting!

Despite the lack of blogs, the committee have continued working away in the background. Drawing up the new constitution has now been completed and a draft was sent to all members for their feedback and comments. We were very pleased with the amount of positive feedback we received and issued the final version to members on 28th October 2020.

We have now turned our attention to running a virtual AGM. We would have loved to arrange a normal AGM – with tea and biscuits and lively face to face discussion – but unfortunately the ongoing pandemic doesn’t allow for this, so the safest way we can run this meeting is virtually. We sent out a renewed call for nominations a couple of weeks ago and sent out the paperwork (2019 accounts, refreshed tenancy rules, chairman’s report, list of committee nominees) to members by email yesterday. There’ll be another email going out on 30th November, which will include a link to an online survey where members can vote. For members who don’t use email, we have sent copies by post. Voting will remain open for 5 days and at the end of the week, we will host a Zoom meeting where we will announce the results of the votes and have an open forum for members.

We’re really looking forward to seeing lots of you on the Zoom meeting. Hosting a large meeting in this way is new to all of us, so please bear with us.
